How did you guys find your opening?

When I was still playing actively I started with unusual gambits because they force you to get the lines down.
Colorado has always had a place in my heart for example.

Going back into normal systems gets a lot easier after that because you already have a lot of the basics.

Many gambits can very well transcend into standard openings so you get a taste of everything and can decide while learning.
As white I first played the Scotch Game, but then it got boring. I switched to the Ruy Lopez in my first non rated tournament but then I switched to a more directly aggressive Italian game. I played this in many tournaments with a basic plan of if black plays Two Knights I attack f7 with Ng5, is black plays the Giuocco Piano I played the Evans Gambit, and anything else I would open lines with d4. But soon I started losing with the Evans Gambit, switched to an even more aggressive Gambit the King's Gambit.

I have always responded to e4 with e5 as black. Against d4 I first played the Modern Benoni, but then I eventually switched to the Stonewall Dutch.
I can't decide between e4, then Nf3 and d4, then c4 for White. For Black, it just depends on whites opening.
