Something else has occurred to me. they say "very advanced hardware and software not so much" for this product to exist as seen in the videos, the chessboard would be basically dumb and require quite sophisticated software to control the electromagnets to move pieces, and also a chess engine to know legal moves and whatnot.
linking it to chess sites would be 1. not even needed to sell the product, you could sell it as is without ever linking it to a website. 2. an uncomplicated project compared to the software supposedly already developed to make the board work as seen in the videos. 3. you could sell the product as is and provide the software to link it to websites later.
