Learn the Petrov's Defense! #1 | Mainline & Nimzowitsch Attack
Hello everyone!
In this video I bring you 11 instructive games in the Petrov’s (or Petroff) Defense. It is named after the Russian chess player, composer, and writer, Alexander Petrov (1794 - 1867).
The Petrov has a very solid yet drawish reputation, and even though this may be true, it’s a very principled choice in 1.e4 e5 to avoid many different options white has like the Italian and Scotch game.
This video does not cover every single try that white can throw at us, unlike some of my other videos, but instead I'd like to show you ideas in the mainlines through model games, and what has been most popular & the sharpest tries so you don't get lost when you choose to play this opening.
This specific 6…Be7 and 7…Nc6 setup has been overtaken in popularity by the 6…Bd6 setup, nonetheless it has a solid reputation and is a great weapon against a higher rated opponent when needed.
I also cover 2 games in the topical Nimzowitsch variation 5.Nc3 which has aggressive intentions, but the last 2 games show how Kramnik and Caruana are able to neutralize this aggressive line.
I hope you enjoy this video!
