proved that you played with a cheater, you don't return the points?

I played a game. I lost. It has been proved that the opponent was a cheater. The moderators don't return to me the points for that game?
When a thief is caught, does he return your goods ? The person that does is probably paid to do so. I think it's the same thing, cheating and stealing someones rating. It would be very time consuming to return every bodies rating for every game a cheater caused damage on. This would give a cheater even more pleasure, knowing they caused extra work to the modulators. Remember the chess games are free.
I have a different opinion. I don't think it's very difficult to return the points to someone who is asking for, when has already proved that the other person cheated. What you say does not offer very good image of lichees, free or not.
But for your answer, I suspect that you lose the points. So... in lichess cheaters win.
Why a thief doesn't return my goods??? When I was robbed two times, in both cases I got my mobile back due to police. I don't care much about returning of rating, because in bullets, that I play it's very rare fact, but police is police.
May be you talk about a shop, but I think it's more fraud than theft. Rogue returns money in this case.
It is difficult. The point is - if you do this for one person you might have to do this for everyone. If moderators change your points then other people who played you might ask for compensation because they lost/won against actually higher rated player. And then people who played those people...
Yes, it needs recalculation, reset, etc. Somebody said about this already.
It's far more complicated than you'd first expect to return rating points after someone has cheated.

I've put forward the idea to periodically recalculate the ratings of players to remove the damage done by cheaters, but it's a considerable amount of work. The whole site would have to go down for a day at a time to get it done.
The point is a rating shows where you stand, its not coins or points that you collect, so if someone unjustly "took" points from you then you will eventually get them back if that rating is a reflection of your current ability. And for your information there are no chess sites that "return" your rating points after a cheater you have played has been caught.
