warning about letting time run out rather than resigning

In a recent 5 2 game I was down to 3 seconds. My opponent played a check, I had 4 possible responses, all of which it turns out were losing. But it was complicated, in some lines I could go a rook down and get a perpetual. While trying to find which of the four candidate moves was the best try my time ran out. At the last second I started feeling that it seemed like I was lost, but was still analyzing. Also, I think the point of this warning is that it is rude to make a player wait an annoying length of time for opponents time to run out. so here my suggestion: set a minimum time, like 5 or 10 seconds, such that no warning will be given if the player who let time run out had less than that amount of time. Such a rule could be refined, like if they only had one legal move then they could get warned if had 3 seconds and let clock run out. But the way it is the warning is sometimes ridiculous.
