What is this "calculating" and how do you do it?

I was playing someone on here, and they said they were "calculating" as a reason for losing on time.

So, what is it, and how do I do it? I've always just played on intuition and hoped for the best. :(
Calculation means looking candidate moves and variations arose from these canditate moves. Finally player decides which candidate move is best for the next move. Calculations in blitz time control oxymoron. Blitz games played on intuition and experience and a slight calculations. Good blitz players know when to calculate and when to move by intuition. Finally its all about experience and more time spent on chess. By the way, I'm talking about real chess which is chess960 (aka fischer random chess). Standard chess is all about memorize every variant from start to some 40th move. Thanks to advanced computers for ruining standard chess and databases of course.

This is the most stupid thing i ever read. In a game that has more possibilites than atoms in the universe, u cant memorize all.

I cant explain well how stupid what u said is in english , i would do it better in spanish.
Wow slow down spanish fide IM. If it did hurt your feelings, your countless hours spent on analysing every opening varitations, I would take back all my saying. But one thing I have to say: Title you hold doesn't give you an open, unbiased look on current situation of the chess world. Indeed, it does the opposite: Biased, closed look to chess understanding. Are you better than David Bronstein, Robert James Fischer, Valery Salov, Susan Polgar and many other well respected GM's in chess understanding. I don't think so. So please don't take my previous words as an offensive to your chess understanding and your years spent on studying and memorizing openinings over and over again.
Nobody can learn every opening deeply. Opening preparation is just useful if your opponent plays always the same opening or you play on professional level so you play against that opening anyway soon.
What I want to say is that you always have to play positions yourself if you opponents wants you to play on your on. You just need to make one uncommon move.
#3 I thought that "‽" was a spot on my screen and it confused me for a bit before I saw it was a conjunction of ! and ?.

Years memorizing openings??? do u think chess is all about memory????. Chess is all about UNDERSTANDING, u can have the best memory in the world, that if u dont understand u wont be a good player.

And again, sorry 4 my terrible english, but i think your spanish is not better.
